Ask me a painting Question

I am here to answer any painting questions you may have.

Painting Walls

Painting walls in your home is not hard, as long as you know how. The first thing you need to get is some really good paint. I recommend Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore. The paint that you find at home depot, does not hold color and won't last. So if you spend a little more money on paint, you can save a lot of time and headache. Now that you have your paint, it's time to fill the nail holes. Get some light weight Spackle, the non-shrinking type, and put a dab on your finger tip and just fill the hole,Than wipe off the excess. This will allow the orange peel texture to come through, and you won't have to sand the spackle. Now tape off the base board, so you don't get paint on it. Make sure you don't put the tape on the wall, only on the base board. Run your finger over the edge to really push it down and seal it. Be careful not to paint the tape to much, it will bleed under and get on the base board. After taping off the base, lightly sand the wall, use 100 grit paper to do this. Graze over the wall to knock off specs and rough spots in order to smooth the wall. Place a tarp on the floor to catch any drips. Get a 5 gallon bucket, roller screen, roller frame and a 1/2 inch nap roller pad with an extension pole. Now you are ready to paint. Brush in the edges first, top and bottom, framing it all in. This will take some skill and patience. Do not tape off the ceiling or other walls to get a straight line. Paint will bleed through and get on the wall. You can get the frogger tape as it doesn't bleed as bad. However, it is best to do it by hand not tape. After you have brushed in all the edges, you can now roll the walls. Don't forget to clean off the edges of the roller, as paint will build up there, creating lines on the wall. Always paint two coats on the walls to get proper coverage and sheen. Use eggshell finish not flat. If you need a good painter, just contact me through my website at http://www.carpenterscustompainting.com/
